Italian Cultural Institute presents Venice. Fragments of Memories
23 Oct to 1 Nov 2008
A view of the city of Venice and its past comes back to life through the photographs of 38 artists from “Circolo Fotografico La Gondola di Venezia”, which is one of the most famous Italian photography clubs. The exhibition showcases 97 black & white photographs shot between 1947 and 1980 by renowned post-war Italian artists such as Paolo Monti, Gianni Berengo Gardin, Sergio Del Pero and many more. Through these photographs, visitors can experience a distinct atmosphere of the city of Venice that the course of time as well as tourism has inexorably erased.

Monsoonasia Gallery presents Endless Curves of Neon by Jamie Paul
17 Oct to 2 Nov 2008
Heavily influenced by his experiences in Singapore and Asia, Endless Curves of Neon by British artist, Jamie Paul, focuses on the multiple sensory delights that eastern modern society confronts us with.
In an ever changing virtual utopia of instant gratification, gluttony and fulfilment that continuously dominates, transforms and dictates ones tastes, dreams and desires, we cannot escape the overwhelming and potentially devastating impact that contemporary mass media threatens.
Each work offers a thought provoking reflection and insight of ones own self, society’s insatiable appetite for mass consumerism and indulgence and the seemingly desperate attempt for us to savour an untouched element of our uniqueness.
