8 June 2010

Six Degrees organized a “landmark” event attended by over 130 people, issues pertaining to the film, television (TV) and media industry were discussed.

 

LIVE! Singapore 2010

8 - 11 June 2010

Emily Hill and Six Degrees was at the LIVE! Singapore 2010 Trade Fair, at Resorts World Sentos. LIVE! Singapore brought together leading performing artists, practitioners, managers, producers, agents and executives of the live performing arts and entertainment industries in four days of intensive and inspiring meetings, break-out sessions and discussion panels and breath-taking live performances.

Creative Industries Fair 2010 - Discover CI WSQ!

21 - 23 May 2010

Emily Hill participated in the exciting Creative Industries (CI) Fair 2010 organized by Singapore Workforce Development Agency (WDA), to be held from 21 to 23 May 2010, 10am to 10pm, at the Central Atrium in Marina Square Shopping Centre.

"Discover CI WSQ" was a 3-day event that featurde training and career opportunities in the Creative Industries, and was supported by Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts, DesignSingapore council, Media Development Authority, National Arts Council and SPRING Singapore.

Shades of Pink 2010

Exhibition was till 22 May 2010.

A photography exhibition featuring the work of 6 photographers, giving their time to raise awareness for the Breast Cancer foundation ­ Zurina Bryant, Duff Hughes, Sham Ramli, Gabriela Bhaskar, Paula Robinson, Rob Spence. Works are for sale and proceeds went to the Breast Cancer Foundation.

PROJECT 636

PROJECT 636 featured 10 creative talents pitching their projects, ideas and portfolios to an audience of industry players and peers

Inspired by the spirit of Pecha KuchaTM nights in Tokyo, Project 636 is an event for young designers to meet, network, and pitch their work in 6 minutes and 36 seconds.

This event was organised by Singapore Creative Network, in partnership with Six Degrees and Emily Hill.

 

WORK-LIFE: THE MAKING OF COMMUNITY

5th - 6th March 2010
National Museum of Singapore and the Tiong Bahru Heritage Estate

A collaboration between the Theatre Training and Research Programme (TTRP), the British Council, and the National Museum of Singapore, in WORK-LIFE: THE MAKING OF COMMUNITY 16 leading artists and an audience made up of educators, artists, community workers and representatives from government organisations at both national and local level, discussed, debated, and developed the ideas of why and how art can be used effectively and responsibly to produce greater understanding, greater tolerance and greater appreciation of the role and importance of community in an increasingly intercultural world.

Culture, Genocide & the small matter of Theatre

Erik Ehn's artistic practice, as playwright, theatre director and teacher, is deeply influenced and informed by the intersections of cultural development, the collapse of culture (which is genocide) and the responsibilities of contemporary theatre. It is an urgently compelling field that combines theatricality, cultural productions and ethics. His play Mario Kizitowas based on the 1994 genocide in Rwandaand was the result of his research in that Central African country. He is also the founder of an annual conference called Arts in One World, which brings together performing artists, scholars and human rights activists to investigate theater on the subject of genocide and reconciliation.

 

Northern Breeze (Myauk Pyun Lay)

In December 2009, the northern breeze blew further south to Singapore as Splash Gallery presented Northern Breeze, a group exhibition showcasing the works of five Burmese artists ­ GanGaw Ywa Tin Win, Hla Han, Nay Tun, Sit Moe Aung and Sai Htoi Aung.

The youngest artist in the group was 23 years old, while the most senior was 71 years old with a career that spans more than four decades. Through their diverse choices of colours, styles, subjects and compositions, they treated us to glimpses of traditional Myanmar way of life and sensibilities in a multitude of rich and varied layers.

Moon Gazing at Emily Hill was back again in 2009!
Friends of Emily Hill came and joined us for an evening of food, drinks, "crafty" activities and riddle guessing fun.

 

Small :: all the little things, new works by Jacinta Sue

Drawing from all the little things in life to create her art, self-taught artist, Jacinta Sue, feels that art (and life) are about exploration, experimentation, expression and expansion. Normally working on small ink drawings that are often colourful, detailed, and nature-themed, her new collection is mainly watercolour, celebrating nature’s gifts and surprises. Born in Singapore and based in San Francisco, Jacinta is the illustrator/designer behind Allymoon, her brand of giftware and home accessories.

Small :: all the little things :: is her first solo exhibition in Singapore.

The Spirits Play
by Traditions & Editions Theatre Circus (TETC)

Presented by Traditions & Editions Theatre Cirucs (TETC), a newly-formed collective of TTRP graduate artists, a much anticipated maiden production of 'THE SPIRITS PLAY', written by the late Mr Kuo Pao Kun. Under the layered direction of Kok Heng Leun, artstic director of Dramabox, this multi-lingual play promises to be a break-through in its staging and resonance.

 

Singapore Theatre – A Dramatic Past and Future

T. Sasitharan of TTRP gave a lecture at The Arts House on the history of theatre in Singapore and the impact of government policies and intervention as part of SDEA's Celebrate Drama '09.

 

Artists at Work

Artists at Work is a series that aims to explore the possible interaction between artists and materials. By pairing artists from different fields with unconventional materials, Artists at Work: Painting on Stone explored the range of possibilities from such an interaction. In the first of its series, artists from disciplines ranging from tattoo art to glasswork tried their hands at painting on stone. Attendees were treated to a 'behind the scenes' of the creative process of an
artist. New works on stone were also created over this short span of two days. This outreach event is presented by Glass Studio at Emily Hill and Polystone.

 

Originals Only Open Mike (OOOM)

December 2008 - June 2009

OOOM is a Singapore Art Cafe initiative. It is held on a Thursday/Friday in each month at external venues, and is a rare open mike in town that features original material of both music and spoken word. Participants get to perform two to three songs or spoken word items. A digital piano, acoustic guitar and P.A. system will be provided, with the latter two being kindly provided by Maestro Guitars (www.maestroguitars.com)

The first seven OOOM sessions were held at the White House at Emily Hill.

 

People on the Hill/sides

People on the Hill/sides is an initiative to connect the community around the Selegie-Little India-Bugis area (otherwise known as the Arts, Education & Entertainment district).

It will be a good opportunity for people working in this district to mingle, get to know or just catch up with each other, and maybe even spark a new collaboration or two!

 

Moon Gazing at Emily Hill

Emily Hill celebrated the Mid Autumn Festival with Moon Gazing at Emily Hill on the 13th of September 2008. Friends and family brought lanterns and mooncakes and we had dinner together under the moon and stars.
